Spring IDE 2.0.5 released

Today we released a new bug fix and enhancement release of Spring IDE. This release basically comes with a bunch of improvements and new features that are not user visible.

Nevertheless we have some new features to try out:

Support for Spring Security 2

Editing <*>elements in XML now gives the usual content assist and navigation support. Furthermore method-level security configurations based on the new element are feed into Spring IDE’s AOP visualization tools so that you can get UI feedback where your security constraints apply.

Basic Support for @Autowired

Based on Jared Rodriguez’ contribution Spring IDE now detects bean dependencies based on the @Autowired and @Resource annotations. I would like to encourage everyone to try out this new feature while it is in incubation and help to improve it. Join the discussion at IDE-148 and leave your comment.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank Jared for his contribution and to welcome him as a committer on the project.

The 2.0.5 is available for download immediately from Eclipse update site. And yeah, Spring IDE will work on Eclipse 3.4 if you get it installed. Let me know how that works for you.

    Hi,
Works perfectly for me on both eclipse 3.3.2 and ganymede M7 (and even the newly released ganymede RC1).

Tnanks for this fabulous product ;-)

Installing Spring IDE on Eclipse 3.4 was not as straight forward as was suggested above so I have written a few instructions on my blog page “Install Spring IDE for Eclipse 3.4” to help anyone who was struggling - as I was.

Euh … as usual, you just have to make sure not to select “Spring IDE dependencies” in order to get Spring IDE to install on both Europa and Ganymede … and this is known and valid for previous versions of Spring IDE too ;-)

Euh … not sur of the origin, but I can’t manage to install Spring IDE 2.0.5 on Ganymede RC2 …
In P2 update manager, after adding the Spring IDE update site, I can’t open the Extensions node (to select the feature I need), and even when trying to install the core only, I get this more-than-cryptic-message:

    Unsatisfied dependency: [org.springframework.ide.eclipse.feature.feature.group 2.0.5.v200805211800] requiredCapability: org.eclipse.equinox.p2.iu/org.springframework.ide.eclipse.feature.source.feature.group/[2.0.5.v200805211800,2.0.5.v200805211800]
    Unsatisfied dependency: [org.springframework.ide.eclipse.feature.feature.group 2.0.5.v200805211800] requiredCapability: org.eclipse.equinox.p2.iu/org.springframework.ide.eclipse.feature.source.feature.group/[2.0.5.v200805211800,2.0.5.v200805211800]

is there something wrong with the update site? or is it P2?

I just tried the Ganymede JEE RC2 package and I could install Spring IDE from the update site. For me some of the Extension were not showing up the first time I run the update manager but after I installed the core feature and the others that showed up I was able to install all features.

There is a know problem with P2 or the package (eh, sounds like there is only one known problem with P2) which requires to start Eclipse with -clean argument to make it kick up new features.

Please try it again and see if that helps. There is nothing I could do right now to better support Ganymede.

    Hi Christian,
Yep, I’ve passed the -clean option to eclipse and no more trouble: I can expand the extensions section, and I was able to install Spring IDE.
    Weird though …

    Thanks.

    Hi folks,

it would be nice when you provide a download version for those behind a corporate proxy/firewall (like me :o| )…

    Thanks a lot,

I appreciate someone providing the same.
http://www.springide.org - redirects to the blogs?
    Is it an intentional thing?
    Please let us know!
